My Plan
I will be leaving for Kampala, Uganda on June 18, 2002 for
six months. I will be working for a non-government, nonprofit
organization called SchoolNet Uganda. My job description will
have me spending roughly two weeks at a time in a given school
where I will be involved in setting up an Intranet system and
web servers and then teaching the local IT Coordinator how to
use the systems I have set up. This will be the experience of
a lifetime and one that I am ready to embrace. Since I will
be working with a new school every two weeks this position will
give me the opportunity to travel throughout Uganda and see
it from both the urban and rural aspect.
As well as traveling within Uganda I am planning to visit the
game reserves in Nairobi, Kenya which is just East of Uganda.
These reserves have a much more diverse selection of Animals
than Uganda. I am also planning to travel to Tanzania and spend
some time on the island of Zanzibar, and possible climb Mt Kilimanjaro.
I have other plans of travel such as Egypt, the coast of Kenya,
and many other places, but ultimately I want to explore Uganda
fully before I get caught up with other countries.
After my placement I plan on spending a couple of months in
Europe where I will visit with relatives in Germany. I also
plan on backpacking throughout Europe during this time, but
have no specific destinations in mind yet. Since I will be in
Europe for the months of January and February I will most likely
spend my time in some of the southerner countries! ;)
Upon arrival back to Canada I am still undecided on what I
want to do. I have been kicking around the ideas of finding
a new job, going back to school, or doing more volunteer work.
As for now it is better left open.
